Hello, hello!
There are a lot of new folks here, so first off, welcome. If you don’t already know me, I’m Jill Margo. I’m a writer, pressed flower artist, and creativity guide who runs a business called The Creative Good out of my studio.
If you’re receiving this email it’s because you subscribed to The Creative Goods, a feminist advice column for creators with conundrums. Instead of sending you the column today, I’m writing with news that I’ve decided not to continue the column and to give you an opportunity to refresh your consent.
Refreshing consent means that, because what I’m offering has changed, I want to give you a chance to unsubscribe if this is no longer the place for you. I’d, of course, love it if you stayed though, so I hope you’ll read on and let me tell you a bit more about why I’ll no longer be doing the column and what I might be doing instead.
As I mentioned, professionally, I’m three things—a writer, artist, and creativity guide. This year, I was fortunate to receive a grant from the BC Arts Council to work on A Comfort of Things, my uplit novel. Last year, I launched my online shop, which sells fine art quality giclée prints of my pressed flower compositions and herbarium specimens. And I’m still leading The Creative Good. Because all this is rather a lot, I’ve found myself in need of streamlining and simplifying.
Instead of having two Substack accounts, two websites, and two Instagram accounts to keep my own creative practice separate from my work with creators, I’m going to roll everything into one under my own name and will be letting go of The Creative Good as a business name. This feels good to me because I’ll be foregrounding my own identity as a creator, while still helping women and non-binary creators at all levels to compassionately show up for their creative practices, season by season, in a way that feels generative, sustainable, and liberatory, so that they can live more fulfilled lives.
So, what will replace The Creative Goods feminist advice column? Here’s the thing: I don’t know yet! I’m still feeling my way through this change and doing a lot of background work to combine all the things. All I know so far is that I want my new Substack offering to be creative, inspiring, helpful, liberatory, beautiful, seasonally-aligned, and not salesy (while still giving you a low-key heads-up about any offerings or creative work of mine you might be interested in).
I’d also like to put the question to you: In what ways would you like me to show up for this Substack offering and what would you like to receive from me? I’m all ears if you have any feedback and would like to click on the “Leave a comment” button below or reply to this email. Otherwise, leave it with me, and at some point over the next few months I’ll have formed another offering.
In the meantime, if any of you are on this list because you’re interested in The Creative Good’s offerings, then please know that the intake is happening now for the Spring Follow-through Sessions. These accountability sessions will help you do the creative work that matters most to you with the support of like-hearted peers (because even though we might make work alone, we don’t have to be alone). If you sign up, you’ll get my Seasonal Planner mailed to you, plus seven two-hour Zoom sessions, and a one-on-one, one-hour session with me to talk about your projects. The intake will end either on March 26th or when all the spots are spoken for (right now there are four spots left).
The Seasonal Creator Spring Workbook is also available for purchase on my website (please note there is no live workshop this season). This 11-page workbook is meant to be done on or around the Spring Equinox and is meant to help you attune your creative practice to the energies of the season.
Okay, now you know I’m still here and that things are happening, and to expect things to look different over the coming months. Please stay on my list if you’re interested to see where things go and if that feels right for you. Thanks, folks. I appreciate you!
Happy Almost-Spring,
Jill
This is very exciting and I'm delighted to see how your substack offering evolves. I love variety and have appreciated all the things you offer, I am very enthusiastic about seeing more of your own work and always enjoy your writing you have a way with words. Also it occurs to me that you are a whole person with many dimensions in your creative expression so of course it makes sense for all of it to be in one place - after all you don't chop yourself up into different bits for each aspect of your work!!
Looking forward to seeing more of your own work! One thing I know for sure is that I would also love tips on studio design based on those photos. Perhaps a bit off-topic but my goodness that is a gorgeous space and can you please come over and make my space look EXACTLY THE SAME??! 😍
